Our mission

The Finnish Port Operators Association produces information on the stevedoring sector, is active as a representative body for the sector and develops the sector's working methods and practices, with the aim of continuously improving the operating conditions of its member companies.

In support of this mission, the Association

  • with the authorities
  • with political decision-makers
  • with Finnish business organizations
  • with other associations in the sector
  • with training and research organizations
  • with the media
  • with similar organizations in other countries and with international and other relevant bodies.

The Association operated under its original name, Suomen Lastauttajain Liitto, before changing it to Satamaoperaattorit ry, Hamnoperatörerna rf in 2003. The Association's English name is the Finnish Port Operators Association. The Association currently has 41 member companies operating in 25 different ports. These member companies employ approximately

The member companies handle over 50 million tonnes of cargo annually (not including liquid bulk). 

Administration

The Association's decision-making power is vested in its general meeting, and its business is managed by the Board of Directors and by the Managing Director, assisted by the Association's office; the Managing Director is answerable to the Board. The Association's Managing Director is Mr Juha Mutru, Master of Laws. The general meeting convenes in spring and autumn every year.
